Top secret documents leaked by Edward Snowden reveal that the US Government have been monitoring the phone calls of 35 world leaders.

The British Press were deeply unethical for listening in on voice mails of the rich and famous (with the exception of the leftie press, such as the Grauniad and Mirror weren’t, even though everyone knows that they allegedly were doing exactly the same thing).

It will be curious to see whether the let wing press are equally as critical of the Obama administration as it was about the Murdoch press. To put this into perspective, the Nixon Watergate scandal was a gnat compared to the monster Obama Administration panopticon surveillance on its own people and the entire planet.

Imagine the foaming at the mouth indignation if Bush had been caught up in the Snowden scandals. Yet Obama, for all the scandals and disasters that engulf his government, seems remarkably immune from criticism. The suspicion must be that this is due to self-censorship by the press and, indeed, politicians, due to political correctness.

Suspicion arises that this is the same PC euphoria that led to Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize extremely prematurely for no apparent reason other than, and there is no getting away from this motivation: being a Democrat of Kenyan descent. Obama has proved to be quite the aggressor and the buck for these spying scandals stops with him.

Again it is worth pointing out that the Obama administration spying is horrific compared to the Nixon administration spying – Obama’s teams are spying on the entire planet and have repeatedly been caught lying about it. The public seem remarkably indifferent to this most extraordinary scandal. Aeroplanes flying into buildings are so much more news worthy. Indeed, that peculiar disaster exacerbated much of the surveillance that puts society at so much risk today.

Related geek news. Apple’s secret mobile protocols have been alleged by engineers to send Apple your user id and password to your phone. Also, as Apple controls the crypto keys, it is alleged that, at least in theory, Apple can unecrypt and read your text messages. Could it be that the US Government has compelled Apple to hand over all of their users’ data via secret court orders? Or is this mere corporate snooping. Or is there a perfectly *innocent face* explanation behind all this?

The US is a dying empire and will resort to greater levels of snooping and bullying to try to maintain their dominance. This should be a scandal but isn’t- the people are too medicated on reality TV and envy.

Some people are more “relevant” than others, it would seem…

There are two separate issues here.

The first is the apathy. While there are a few people that actively defend the surveillance state, I believe that the apathy on the part of most is a result of the absence of appropriate outrage in the media.

I hate it, but I have had to come to the conclusion that many people only believe something when they see it reported in the conventional channels. I’ll never forget a conversion I had with a decent fellow who genuinely felt that global warming must be true or it could not be reported as such.

It’s a combination of wanting to be with the herd (right or wrong) and not wanting to be forced to think about things – if the media are lying about global warming, what else are they lying about? People don’t want their world view challenged.

The second point is that our democracies rely on an informed electorate. That information comes from the press. If the press are corrupt, the whole basis of our democracy is threatened.

And the press are corrupt. Not criminally, but ideologically. They lie by omission. Democracy is no longer functioning as it should.

Add together these odd human desires to believe what the majority believes, to want to trust the media and for that media to be a source of disinformation – or at least selective information – and it doesn’t look good for the future.
