Thatcher on Thursday: Divide and Conquer

I was a Guide for about 3 weeks. It clashed with Girls Brigade on a Monday night though so I had to choose. I went for the one with the better hat and remained with Girls Brigade until I was 16. Anyway, I digress…

News came out yesterday that under the new “Chief Executive” Julia Bentley the Guides will be changing their Pledge. It currently reads:

I promise that I will do my best to love my God, to Serve The Queen and my Country, to help other people and to keep the Guide Law.

Love My God. Serve The Queen and my Country. How very traditional, cultural and patriotic. I’m imagining myself making jam and singing Jerusalem as I read that.

Here’s what the former CE of the Family Planning Association, Julia Bentley has changed that pledge to:

I promise to do my best be true to myself and to develop my beliefs, serve the Queen and my community, to help other people and to keep the Guide Law.

Julia Bentley, on her appointment to her current role as the Chief Executive of Girl Guides UK, stated that The Girl Guides are the “ultimate feminist organisation”. In her statement, she stated she “wanted to use her frontline campaign experience to direct Girlguiding UK’s growing work to give girls a voice on the social issues impacting their futures – from body image and mental health to equality and female role models”.

She has already said that Guiding has a ‘middle-class reputation’ … and she wants to change that.

I am inclined to believe that if the Queen was not the Patron of the Guides, she would have been dropped from the pledge as well.

I am quite certain, from looking at the language that she has used, that Bentley sits some way to the left of me. So… let’s look at that new pledge.

We lose “love my God”, (which is as diverse as you can get – My God. Covers all manner of religions, that) and replace it with “children are to be true to themselves” (which is a wishy washy statement) Children learn from those around them… “True to themselves” does not inspire aspiration to some sectors of society.

“To serve my community” . Why change the word country to community?

Have you noticed that the word “community” has now become part of the “multicultural language” that we are expected to use. The job title “community leader” gets my goat. Who appointed these people? We have Muslim Communities, Sikh communities, Polish communities, Black communities… the list is endless. I consider these communities quite divisive, encouraging intolerance on both sides.

But multiculturalism has failed. David Cameron (amongst other world leaders) has told us this.

Cameron said in that clip “We have allowed the weakening of our collective identity”.

In the fight against home grown extremism, we must recognise the importance of being British in Britain. The strength and unity that brings can never be underestimated.

But I’m not just looking solely at fighting extremism within Britain for our need to retain and encourage our collective British identity.

Is it a coincidence that the main countries within the EU are saying the same about the failure of multiculturalism? Of course it isn’t. Multiculturalism and mass uncontrolled immigration didn’t just affect the UK. It affected all of the EU.

When Labour won the 1997 General Election one of the first things that happened was that the wheels were put into motion for Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish devolution. Again, dividing and trying to make irrelevant the country’s group identity. Why would they do that? Why would they try to break down national identity?

Divide et impera. Divide and Conquer.

Because the Project Cannot Fail.

The Project MUST fail. Be British. We are stronger United.

The Guides are to be made Communitarian and work with a Common Purpose toward a higher UN Agenda21. Religion, belief in ‘country’ are to be disparaged and discouraged. Country boundaries should disappear and regions across those boundaries developed so there is no loyalty to a country only the Europe des Régions
You didn’t think that the running down of UK’s power supplies and defences was just mismanagement did you? Reliance on the Regions is being created.

‘Love my God’ isn’t as diverse as you can get. It doesn’t include those who don’t believe in iron age mythology.

Pathetic article, using the Girl Guides as a vehicle for a racist rant. Boring.
    1/10 must do better!

The Girl Guides are common purpose filth! We will sweep common purpose scum into the sea!

Looking at the Girl Guides web site, the appointment of Julie Bentley appears to be in keeping with their philosophy – it’s full of “empowerment” and “advocacy”.

It looks like the “long march though the institutions” extends to youth organisations. Thinking about it, this is precisely what we would expect.

Chalk up one more victory to the Frankfurt School.

I don’t mean to sound too critical of the right; but increasingly I am getting a feeling of “boiling frog” syndrome.
It seems that over the past few years, where many in the conservative party were looking for a way back to power, the left have been busy advancing their cause.

I’m sure that not all right wing people were ignorant of the left’s progress, but I sense now a feeling that many on the right are suprised by the extent to which the left have established non-politcal control or influence.
What bother’s me, is that displacing these people, which will be required, since many charities or youth organisations have longevity; will be a tremendous challenge.
Its now clear to me, (and I was one of the more ignorant ones) that simply getting into power, in the sense of winning general elections, will be necessary but not sufficient to create the kind of country in which libertarians would want to live.

You’re right, the left have far more commitment and constantly strive to achieve their aims. Sadly, that’s why they are ultimately going to win.

Correct, but it needs to be considered that the Left infiltrated the institutions particularly education at all levels and the media as well as the political class… the great coup being its turning of the young would-be politicos, like Cameron, on the Right.

By the time ‘the frog’ felt the water warming it was too late because the Left had the State on their side because they are the State.

In South Africa after the Boers lost to the British, they made it a strategy for their young to learn good English and get jobs in the civil service, previously the preserve of English speakers.

Over time the civil service and thus the institutions of the State were majority in the hands of Boers. The British were just edged out and didn’t realise it was happening.

The Left have done the same with the Right.

The solution: time. All Left wing projects collapse under the weight of their own hubris and the reaction to the inevitable oppression of the Human spirit they need to survive.

    It is written above:
“The Girl Guides are the “ultimate feminist organisation”. It is worth noting that feminism is another movement or ideology that has been hijacked by left wing ideas and ideologues.
In simple terms, a key theme of many feminist texts used to be equality of opportunity, an idea compatible with right wing or liberal political ideas.
Today one of the key themes in feminism is around the treatment of women as a special interest group, a situation that recognises differences between women and men and then demands government intervention to fix the problems of society that acutely affect women.

You lost me at the end there: devolved power erodes national identity? Does the existence of Lancashire County Council (as a more granular devolution of government) promote division and erode our “group identity”?
By your reasoning, identifying oneself as British promotes division and erodes our European group identity.

Identity is something we judge for ourselves – you can’t dictate what someone’s group identity ought to be.

Also, “love my God” is as diverse as you can get…for those who have a God.

The policy to Balkanise England into regional assemblies was another attempt to undermine national identity so we can be absorbed into the EU Borg. I take it as a positive sign that the people weren’t having any of it.

We should take heart! A fifth of voters have just placed a cross for UKIP (that’s with no money and virtually no party organisation to help the candidates). These people aren’t cowards and they aren’t for chucking Blightly under the European steamroller just yet.

They’ve taken a decision to run the gauntlet of abuse from the lunatic fringe “left” and the Tories, been called from a pig to a dog for their trouble, and still decided to stick two fingers up at them all and rightly so.

These are the kind of people you can rely on when you’re in a tight spot. A stark contrast to the collectivist cowards who call you a name (racist, fascist, climate change denier etc) then run a mile when they find an opponent capable of exposing their bankrupt arguments.

Incidentally, I don’t like the Left/Right terminology. I prefer Individualist (libertarians, conservatives, classical liberals) or Collectivist (socialists, social democrats, communists, fascists, corporatists, crony capitalists).

By describing ourselves as “the Right” we open ourselves up to the “Fascist” label when really that belongs to the control freaks on “the Left” who want the State to organise everyone’s lives for them, presumably because they’re too pathetic to look after themselves so they assume everyone else is too.

And what has Her Royal Oathbreaker had to say about it? Threaten to withdraw Her Patronage? Nope. Just like she sits by with her silly smile while we redefine marriage, turn over the C of E to atheist Marxists and homosexuals, allow the massive immigration of muslims, and listen to her son say he will become a “Defender of Faith” and, presumably, of atheism.

Cards on the table, I am an atheist, but of the kind that people call agnostic. I’m not a positive disbeliever, But for someone to take a supposedly-important-to-her coronation oath to defend the faith and then to just sit by while it is systematically destroyed is unconscionable.

She has the power, at any time, to dissolve parliament and invoke a constitutional crisis, or at least a general election. I think the people of this country would have stood by her if she withheld Royal Assent for those things under her care and protection, which by all rights should be decided by a referendum, e.g. sovereignty. She could have demanded a referendum before now, but she doesn’t want to rock the boat for “the family”.

I’m disgusted. It’s a bloody shame Wallace Simpson got divorced.

Have they nobbled the scouts yet? My son’s cub camps have so far involved both fire lighting and shooting with air rifles, so things seem to be in order. I may try to divert my daughter in that direction…

Regarding the Guides, it’s just one more brick in the wall of bourgeois institutions that the Cultural Marxists had to infiltrate and subvert. It must have taken this long for sufficient generations of school kids, now parents, to have their ideas warped by their teachers who were warped generations before.

    Box ticked. Job done.
