Bogpaper competition winner announced!

Hurrah! Finally we can announce the winner of Bogpaper’s essay competition. The challenge, you may remember, was to describe in language even an idiot can understand why it is that government spending cannot magically create jobs or boost the economy.

Here at Bogpaper Towers we were hugely impressed by the range and quality of the entries. These included a particularly good technical analysis from Tim Morgan at Tullett Prebon, an insight into the inefficiencies of EU grant funding from a Portugese-based sports clothing manufacturer, and a pithy account of the difference between public and private sector jobs – the former being essentially a kind of wanking, while the latter being more akin to  productive and pleasurable fucking.

However, our winner stood out because his essay stuck most closely to the brief by keeping it very, very simple. Even we idiots at Bogpaper towers understood it. So well done Simon Roberts! And many thanks to all who entered: if we believed in All Shall Have Prizes we’d give you all prizes. Unfortunately, we’re elitists here, so we can’t.

We shall publish Simon’s marvellous essay on Tuesday – be sure to look out for it!

‘a… kind of wanking, while the latter being more akin to productive and pleasurable fucking.’

My goodness, let’s hope whoever thinks this is the way to express themselves had nothing to do with judging the competition.

Let’s face it, this place is called Bogpaper — which might come handy in the process.

Besides, I find the analogy quite appropriate.

Sounds like a fair, balanced assessment to me 🙂

Oh yes, the old wanking and fucking analogy. I think we covered that at A-Level. Or was that opportunity tossed? Anyway, well done, Simon.
